Sharjah has confirmed a long break for public sector employees this year. The Sharjah Human Resources Department announced that the UAE National Day holiday will be observed on Monday, December 1, and Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Work will start again on Wednesday, December 3.

Because Sharjah follows a Friday–Saturday weekend, this timing creates a full five-day break for government workers. The long weekend gives families enough time to rest, travel, or attend events across the emirate.

Why the break is longer in Sharjah

Sharjah switched to a four-day workweek in 2022 with Friday as the official weekend start. When public holidays fall near Friday, the time off becomes longer without any added adjustments. This year’s dates line up well, giving employees a full stretch of days off.

What residents can expect

The emirate plans several events to mark National Day. Expect light shows, concerts, military displays, and community programs in parks and public areas. Many families travel within the UAE during this period due to mild weather and school breaks. Roads, malls, and leisure spots often see higher footfall.

Hotels and resorts also prepare special offers for the holiday. Families often book early as popular spots fill quickly.

Public offices

All government departments in Sharjah will pause services during the break. Offices will resume work on December 3. Emergency services, health facilities, and vital departments will stay active as usual.

Private sector holiday announcements often follow soon after the public sector notice. Most companies align their dates with the national schedule once approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

A time to celebrate

National Day marks the union of the UAE and holds great pride for residents. Sharjah usually hosts classic traditions during this time, such as heritage shows, flag events, and programs for children. Many schools also take part with themed activities and public performances.

Families often use the break to visit cultural spots like Al Majaz, Heart of Sharjah, and Sharjah National Park. Outdoor areas become key gathering locations due to the cool evenings.

The UAE National Day holiday brings the community together each year. This five-day break gives residents space to relax, celebrate, and enjoy time with family and friends.
